Cuánto Cuesta

“Cuánto Cuesta” — Spanish for “How much?” — might sound like a simple question, but if you know my friend Rod, you know it’s something else entirely. It’s how he greets people. A catchphrase. A conversation starter. A running joke. And for me, a moment frozen in time that deserved to be worn.

This design is the first piece in what I now call my Friends Series — shirts I create that are inspired by the people who’ve shown up in my life in deep and meaningful ways. It’s not just about funny phrases or inside jokes; it’s about honoring connection. And Rod has been one of those people — the kind you don’t meet by accident.

He’s been more than a friend to me. Rod has helped me navigate moments I didn’t think I’d survive, and he’s also become a kind of teacher — especially when it comes to business. He’s given me insight, strategy, tough love, and that kind of real talk that doesn't sugarcoat things. His influence has helped shape not just my designs, but the way I think about running something of my own. This shirt is a thank you — stitched into cotton.

The style of the design reflects both of our roots. Rod is Cuban, I’m Mexican, and the vibe is meant to feel like something you’d see painted on the side of a food cart, a corner shop, or a delivery van in the heart of a bustling street. It’s bold, handmade, a little retro — like it’s been there forever. There’s a rhythm to the way the words sit, like it’s meant to be said out loud, with a smile and a head nod.

“Cuánto Cuesta” is about more than a price. It’s about value — in friendship, in growth, in culture, and in the voices that stay with us. Rod’s voice is one of those for me
